Star Tribune Uses HPP Data to Call for More Affordable Housing Production
07.17.2007 - Star Tribune

On July 17th 2007, the Minneapolis Star Tribune lead editorial proclaimed “Metro failing to meet housing goals”.  The editorial went on to discuss the obligations Twin Cities local governments have to meet affordable housing goals negotiated with the Metropolitan Council.  Relying extensively on data compiled by HPP and partner organizations on a new website, www.TCHousingPolicy.org, the newspaper observed that many cities are far behind on meeting their affordable housing goals and should do much more.  When the Met Council reviews new city plans for the next decade, the editors suggested the Council should take a hard look at the plans and consider them in light of how much progress cities have been making in meeting their current goals.  The editorial quoted HPP President Tim Thompson on the importance of cities not just planning but then acting on those plans as well.

The new TCHousingPolicy website contains a wealth of information on local governments and their role in affordable housing production.
